Creativity for learning

Promoting creativity for learning

Creativity is now recognised as playing an important part in effective learning.  It is also central to the national education agenda that promotes ‘Excellence and Enjoyment’.

But:

  • What is creativity for learning?
  • How can schools introduce and sustain creativity for learning?
  • How does it help schools achieve greater success?

Creativity for learning

Creativity for learning places the emphasis on the quality of learning. It is about developing and promoting an approach that gives learners ownership of their learning and their successes.

It is about developing life-long learners who enjoy the challenge of discovery, and who have the confidence to apply their learning creatively. It is about asking questions as well as finding answers.

A systemic approach to creativity is required for learning to be truly effective. For a school to achieve maximum success, creativity must become an integral part of the school’s philosophy and practice.

Benefits to schools

Creativity removes the limits of traditional thinking by promoting ‘possibility thinking’, which goes beyond simply finding solutions to problems.

It focuses on ownership, relevance and control as being essential to effective learning.

It is worth remembering that a lesson cannot be judged ‘outstanding’ unless it includes elements of creativity.

CCDU’s programme on creativity for learning feeds into school self-evaluation and Assessment for Learning.

Introducing creativity

CCDU’s creativity programme is designed to introduce creativity into the fabric of your school. All programmes are tailored to the needs of the individual school but include common elements:

  • Defining what ‘creativity for learning’ means for your school
  • Supporting staff in completing an audit and action plan
  • Evaluating progress and assessing the impact on learning

Furthermore, all our creativity programmes are designed to be stimulating, rigorous, challenging, creative and fun!

Creativity for smaller schools

We can design creativity programmes for any type of school; primary schools and smaller schools may find it appropriate to join together to take advantage of our creativity services.
