Board of Directors
Dr John Smith
Managing Director, CCDU
Director of: Carnegie Leaders in Learning; Yorkshire and Humber Professional Development Consortium; and The Northern Partnership
As well as consultancy in education, John specialises in organisation design and development, cultural change, competency framework design, assessment centre design and management, performance management, psychometric testing, counselling and guidance. John’s experience includes major change projects for organisations in the public and private sector. Family commitments keep him busy and he catches some peace and quiet now and then with a spot of fly fishing; committed to lifelong learning, he has recently taken up ski-ing and horse-riding.
Julie Firth
Director, Company Secretary and Business Manager
Julie is business relations and quality manager for the Carnegie Partnership and is responsible for the CCDU business management processes. Julie takes Active Learning™ to heart in her ‘leisure’ time; strictly speaking she suffers from dance fever (swingjive, salsa) aggravated by cycling and gardening - in fair weather only.
The business support team
Lisa Sims
Finance Director
Lisa is responsible for the overall financial management of CCDU including preparation for audit of year-end accounts, payroll, preparation of VAT returns, budgeting, and managing the finance team. Lisa is also a Director of Carnegie Leaders in Learning Partnership. Steven Gilroy
Business Support Coordinator
Steven is responsible for financial management of contracts and production of monthly accounts. Another active learner, Steven is close to completing his studies for the AAT qualification. A keen crown green bowler, Steven plays for teams across and outside the region as well supplementing his earnings with winnings from individual competitions – a true accountant.
Naomi Jackson
Business Support Coordinator
Naomi is part of CCDU’s business support team; she works iin accounts and is part of the integration team supporting operations. She keeps herself busy working part-time for CCDU whilst juggling the demands of a young family which is an achievement in active learning! She enjoys putting into practice her horticultural training and her interest in craft and design, travel and the great outdoors.

He supports participants and tutors in the online learning element of the national education programmes, particularly NPQH and LftM. Trevor’s primary role is leader of the NPQH (National Professional Qualification for Headship) training programme for the Yorkshire & Humber region. Until recently Trevor was regional manager for the national remodelling team, and delivered the CSBM programme (Certificate in school business management). Within NPQH David is responsible for inductions, learning gateway, and HD. David is also an artist, and amongst many passions, music of all genres is especially notable; with inimitable style he runs his own band and writes his own songs.
